Finishing Stages

We offer several choices in finishing the windows. These are:

  • The items can be left completely unfinished as bare timber.
  • The items can be simply primed or base coat stained.
  • The items can be fully finished in either opaque paint or transluscent stain.
  • The items can be fully finished with 2 different colour paints, so the outer face can be different to the inner.*

The finishing process has many stages including preservers, sealers, primers and finishes.

The stages are as follows for opaque paint: Preserver (on a softwood product, not required for hardwoods) > knotting (softwood), end grain sealer and V joint sealers applied > Priming with stain blocking primer > 2 topcoats of satin finish paint.

The stages for stains are: Preserver (on a softwood product, not required for hardwoods) > base coat stain applied > End grain sealer and V joint sealers applied > 2 topcoats of satin finish stain.

All our paint products are supplied by Teknos, who specialise in spray applied joinery coatings. They are all sprayed in house by our own finishing team, so we are in complete control of finish quality throughout. We have a range of standard colours but can paint in any RAL or BS colour on request. The standard colours are shown below (note the swatches are for indication only and are not a guaranteed colour):

*Dual finishing can only be done with 2 opaque colours, or bare one side and opaque the other. Transluscent stains cannot be used in dual finishing.
